By Ray Hamill — The Eureka Loggers almost pulled off a miracle finish on Saturday to preserve their remarkable unbeaten run in the H-DNL, but they couldn’t find a way past Arcata’s Skaidra Pulley.
The senior shot stopper was in sensational form once again, making a brilliant save in the final seconds to help her team hold on for a stunning 2-1 win over the two-time defending league champions, who had not lost a league game in more than two years.
“That was top shelf,” Arcata head coach Patrick Stranahan said of the save.
Check out the save here and the celebrations just seconds later when the final whistle sounded.
Also worth watching is the build-up to the shot, with a superb pass from Eureka’s Aquene Tollefson to set up teammate Klayre Barres, who herself made a nice move inside before shooting.
Pulley offers a double threat as the last line of defense for the Tigers.
Not only has she developed into arguably the best goalie in the H-DNL this year, but she has matured as a much better vocal leader, giving her teammates encouragement and direction throughout.
And when it mattered most on Saturday, she was able to back that leadership with the play of the game, making a brilliant stop to deny Barres, quite probably the best striker in the H-DNL.
