The Del Norte Warriors suffered their first loss of the season, falling 21-14 at Mazama in Klamath Falls on Friday night.
The visitors had a chance to score in the dying seconds after reaching the Mazama nine-yard line, but were unable to convert and saw the opportunity slip away.
With the loss, Del Norte is now 4-1 at the halfway stage of the season.
Giovanni Gonzalez led the Warriors ground attack with 64 yards and one of their two touchdowns, with Kobe Mitchell adding 57 yards rushing and Levi Cox Cooley 56 yards.
Chase Blackburn scored the Warriors’ other TD.
In a back-and-forth and hard-fought game, the end result could have gone either way.
“At times we played well, and at times they got the better of us,” Del Norte head coach Nick White said. “It’s a learning experience for sure.
“It was two physical teams battling.”
The Warriors will try to get back on track when they host Fortuna next weekend.
