By Ray Hamill — The Bosnian Bear’s first win on American soil was one to remember, according to Humboldt County.
In response to this week’s poll question as to which was the most impressive first win of the season for local football teams last weekend, Humboldt Sports readers voted overwhelmingly in favor of McKinleyville’s 21-15 victory over Fort Bragg at the Redwood Bowl.
It was the Panthers’ first win in exactly a year, with several dominating performances, none more so than Velid Mujezinovic, an exchange student from Bosnia and Herzegovina who was playing his first ever game of football.
The Panthers’ win garnered 72 percent of the votes cast, with Fortuna’s win at Kelseyville coming in a distant second with just under 17 percent.
Ferndale’s win at Fall River was next with just under eight percent of the votes, with South Fork’s rout of Round Valley collecting just under five percent.
There were a total of 102 votes cast.
