Last week saw a number of impressive season opening performances by local prep football teams, none more so than Del Norte, according to Humboldt Sports readers.

We asked our readers which team had the most impressive opening weekend, and 47.5 percent of you voted for Del Norte, which traveled to Moreau Catholic and came away with a statement 20-19 win.

But the Warriors weren’t alone.

Both St. Bernard’s and Eureka each also had impressive openers, with the Crusaders cruising to a 36-7 win at El Molino, and the Loggers pushing a top quality Placer team all the way in a 40-27 loss.

According to our poll, Eureka’s performance was the second most impressive of the weekend, with the Loggers garnering 27.5 percent of the vote, ahead of St. Bernard’s with 22 percent.

All three teams will be back in action on Friday night.
