The Northern Humboldt Steelheads were busy over the weekend, with two of three teams claiming tournament championships at the Summer Sizzler in Medford, including the 10U team.
The youngest Steelheads squad won all four of its games, defeating Upper Rouge 10-2, the Phoenix Bucs 11-3 and the Rogue again 11-3 on the way to the championship game.
In the decider, they got the better of the Scott’s Valley Dirt Dogs 13-1.
The travel team outscored its four opponents 45-9.
The top of the lineup led the way at the plate, with Tate Saso getting 10 hits over the four games, including a home run and two doubles.
Hunter Carper also had 10 hits, including a triple and three doubles, while Joe Tanno had eight hits, including a home run and two doubles.
Cody Wilson added seven hits, including a triple and a double.
Carper pitched a complete game against the Rogue, striking out five, with Mateo Reiman playing well behind the plate.
Gunner Coleman, Lincoln Hungerford, Lucas Jones, Reiman, Wilson and Saso also pitched over the weekend, although the Steelheads saved the best for last, with Tanno pitching a gem in the championship.
Tanno allowed just one hit and no walks, while striking out 13, with Reiman once again impressive behind the plate.
The Steelheads 11U also won their championship, although no stats were immediately available.
The Steelheads12U were also in Medford, as were the Redwood Giants 10U.
