By Ray Hamill — The Arcata Tigers have been forced to pull the plug on this weekend’s Eye of the Tiger girls soccer tournament, pushing back the season openers for some local teams.
With no out-of-area teams committed to traveling to Arcata, head coach Patrick Stranahan canceled the early-season event.
The majority of schools in the North Coast Section play soccer in winter and not the fall, limiting the number of teams Stranahan can call on.
McKinleyville, which opened the season in a 6-1 win over Willits last week, was scheduled to play at the tournament, as was Eureka.

The Local Schools allowed this to happen as a backdoor method and attempt to hamper School sports like HSU did with the football team… apparently the student body wanted the football team less than the rest of the general public in the community…
High school officials on the other hand apparently don’t want soccer teams around, while football is still King… and then basketball…
Hsu is not an anomaly due to the fact the students are majority not local whereas the high schools the students are majority local…
Further the teams in the south of the northern districts never liked coming up here in the first place and nearly always complained that the competition sucked… but due to rules with CIF they had to travel and compete…
… enter the move to Winter like it used to be back in the 1980s… a method to play better competition without the travel…
… why you think players didn’t play for their High School this past year and the previous season…
…did travel games instead with a travel team, which is becoming more difficult for North Coast players as well…
Not even Sports on the North Coast is free from the problems created by adults for political purposes…
