Freshman forward Summer Contreras scored twice to lead the South Fork Cubs to a season-opening 2-0 win at home to Willits in girls soccer on Tuesday.
Contreras, who had four shots on goal in her high school debut, opened the scoring early in the first half off an assist by junior co-captain Marian Del Rio.
The duo combined again for the Cubs’ second goal in the second half.
The South Fork girls out-shot the larger school 9-3 for the game and dominated possession throughout, with co-captains Del Rio and senior Harley Bates controlling the middle of the park.
Sophomore goalkeeper Lyndsee Brewer saved all three shots that came her way, posting her first career shutout thanks to some solid defense from Alahni Christiansen, Jaylenne Harris and midfielder Kalea Juan Enright.
Next up for the Cubs is a home matchup against Roseland Collegiate Prep on August 29 at 3 p.m.
