By Ray Hamill — The Eureka Loggers will feature a lot of new starters this season, but that doesn’t mean they won’t have some weapons in the offensive backfield.

The running game will be key for head coach Jason White and his team, as they try to move on from a legendary senior class that put together back-to-back undefeated regular seasons.

But the cupboard is far from bare and a new season offers a chance for several new faces to prove themselves.

It all starts with the offensive line, a unit that played physical in last Friday’s scrimmage, and a unit that will be anchored by senior standout Miles Meynell.

And if they can pave the way for the running game, it will make the transition at quarterback a whole lot easier, with senior Trevor Bell taking over from the graduated Cruz Montana.

Expected to lead the way in the backfield is senior Lamarie Dunn, one of just three full-time starters returning this season.

Dunn is an explosive playmaker, who can also catch the ball and showed a lot of improvement over the course of last season.

He won’t, however, be the only ball carrier for the Loggers.

“We have six guys that can play running back,” White said. “And we’ll rotate them and keep them fresh.

“We have a lot of kids playing both ways this year.”

Seniors Trent Morrow and Keeb Her will see plenty of carries, as will juniors Diego Garcia and Holden Davis.

Bell will also be used in the running game, displaying some of his speed to great effect in Friday’s scrimmage.

The Loggers open the season at home to Placer on Friday night at 7:30 p.m., with the JVs getting the evening under way.
