By Ray Hamill — Tag Wotherspoon and the crew at MIX 95.1 FM are tentatively scheduled to broadcast 15 regular season football games in 2019, including big showdowns to open and close the season.
The 15 games will all include either Fortuna or St. Bernard’s, with the two schools scheduled to meet at Crusader Field in Eureka in the Big 4 finale in early November.
Last year the two teams played the game of the season against each other, a 56-54 overtime win for the Crusaders in Fortuna.
And fans can expect more dramatics from the two high-flying programs this time around.
The radio schedule gets under way on Thursday August 22, when the Huskies travel for a tough opener at Cardinal Newman.
The following day, Wotherspoon will bring us St. Bernard’s opener at El Molino in Forestville.
Other big games on the schedule include the annual Milk Can showdown between the Huskies and Wildcats in Fortuna on September 13, as well as a showdown between the Crusaders and Wildcats in Ferndale the following weekend.
Wotherspoon will also be on hand for both Fortuna/Del Norte games, which are usually among the most competitive of the local season.
Likewise for the all-Eureka affair between the Loggers and Crusaders at St. Bernard’s on October 26, only the third ever meeting between the two programs.
MIX 95.1 will also broadcast a doubleheader on October 11, getting the day started when Stellar Prep visits St. Bernard’s, and then closing out with Foothill at Fortuna that night.
