The Humboldt Eagles 19U saw their season come to an end at the American Legion state tournament in Yountville on Sunday morning, but they didn’t go down without a fight.
The Eagles fell 11-10 to Petaluma, scoring six runs in the bottom of the seventh and final inning and leaving the tying run at second base.
The all-county team closed out an impressive season with a record of 36-15 and reached the final four in state play.
On Sunday, they showed plenty of fight, battling back on multiple occasions.
Defensive miscues, however, proved costly, with Petaluma scoring six runs in the top of the sixth to take a commanding seven-run lead.
The Eagles had five errors on the day.
At the plate, several Eagles had big days as the team out-hit Petaluma 10-9.
Cody Emmons was 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBIs, while Landon Gomes was 2-for-3 with a double.
Dustin Ireland also had two hits and an RBI, while JB Lewis had a double and two RBIs.
