The College of the Redwoods women’s basketball team continued a busy offseason with another player committing to play for the Corsairs next year.

Lauren Berklund, who played high school ball at Philomath High in Oregon, last week signed a letter of commitment to join the CR program.

Berklund joins a long list of offseason commits for the Corsairs, who should have a far more balanced lineup next season and plenty of depth.

The former Philomath star will play small forward.

Crusaders to host alumni golf tournament

St. Bernard’s will host an alumni golf tournament on August 3 as a fundraiser for the school’s athletic program.

The four-man scramble tournament will take place at the Eureka Municipal Golf Course, with the action getting under way at 9 a.m. and check-in at 8 a.m.

Tickets are $120 per player and include lunch and awards.

For more information, call St. Bernard’s AD Ryan Bisio at 707-443-2735, ext. 102, or email bisio@saintbernards.us.

Jacks add depth to women’s team

The Humboldt State women’s track and field program has announced the signing of several athletes who will join the team for the 2020 outdoor season.

The list of commits include Makell Edwards, Cami Becker, Lucy Atkinson and Hannah Hartwell, with head coach Sarah Ingram expecting more than 12 new faces.

“Sprints through distances highlight this recruiting class, adding depth in those events,” Ingram said.

The head coach is hoping to continue to add to the roster.

“One of our holes in this recruiting class is female throwers, which have traditionally been a stronger recruitment area for us,” she said. “So we will continue to look for potential transfer throwers to fill our roster for spring.”
