The Humboldt Eagles 19U American Legion team has matched up well against the Humboldt B52s this season.
On Wednesday night, the Eagles evened the summer series against the more experienced B52s with a 5-4 win at Bomber Field, ending the home team’s seven-game winning streak in the process.
The two clubs were 2-2 against each other this summer.
In an exciting back and forth game, the Eagles overcame an early one-run deficit with two runs in the top of the fourth, both scoring on a Scott Coffelt double.
Starter Caleb Ruiz pitched seven and two-third innings for the win, allowing eight hits and one walk, while striking out four.
C.J. Van Meter and Kalebh Hill both pitched well in relief, with Hill striking out the final batter of the game with the bases loaded and the B52s threatening.
The home team scored a pair of late runs in the seventh and ninth innings to make for an exciting end, but the younger Eagles out-hit the B52s 10-9 for the night.
Gannon Cyphers led the way at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs, while Dustin Ireland and Jaden Gorge each added a pair of hits.
Hunter Davis and Garrison Finck each also had a hit in the win.
For the B52s, Eric Smelko continued to impress, finishing 2-for-5 with a double and a stolen base, as did Jacob Smith, who was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Braeden Holliday added a double, while Spencer Duggan, Tommy Gale, Ethan Fischel and Karter Koch rounded out a nine-hit team performance.
Ryan Rivera took the loss on the mound, allowing four runs on seven hits and four walks in six innings.
With the win, the Eagles improved to 28-9 on the season, while the B52s dropped to 17-9.
The Eagles will play a doubleheader at Fairfield on Friday, while the B52s will open a three-game weekend series against NBO Baseball on Friday night.
