By Ray Hamill — There are few better ways to celebrate the Fourth of July than catching a baseball game, and there are plenty of options for local fans to choose from, with a number of local teams in action over the coming days.

Humboldt Crabs

Most notably, the Humboldt Crabs are in the midst of six consecutive days of games at the Arcata Ball Park, with the Solano Mudcats closing out a three-game series on Thursday at 2:30 p.m., before the PUF Caps come to town for a three-game stand over the weekend.

Included is alumni day on Saturday, where the Crabs will introduce the newest hall of fame class before the game, which gets under way at 7 p.m., and will host a fireworks display afterwards.

Humboldt B52s

In Eureka, meanwhile, the B52s will also be in action, hosting the Sonoma County Tigers in a three-game stand at Bomber Field.

The series gets under way on Friday night at 7:05 p.m., followed by games on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. and Sunday at 12:05 p.m.

American Legion district tournament

In American Legion action, five local teams will be involved in the three-day district tournament at Newburg Park in Fortuna, which runs from Friday through Sunday.

The double-elimination tourney gets under way on Friday afternoon when the Eagles 15U play the Northern Humboldt Knights at 2 p.m., with the winner advancing to play the Humboldt Eagles 17U later that day at 7 p.m.

In between, the defending district champion Northern Humboldt Giants will play the Southern Humboldt 76ers at 4:30 p.m.

The action continues with three more games on Saturday and at least two on Sunday.
