Sunday Baseball Roundup — Busy day for local teams

After opening the season with nine straight wins, the Southern Humboldt 76ers made it three wins in four games at their own tournament on Sunday, defeating Gridley 8-3 at Newburg Park in Fortuna.

On a busy day of local baseball action, the Humboldt Crabs won their seventh straight, 12-4 over the California Expos, while the Humboldt B52s completed a weekend sweep of the Redding Colt 45’s at Bomber Field in Eureka, winning 7-2.

Also in action in Fortuna, the Northern Humboldt Giants defeated Red Bluff 4-1.

SH 76ers 8, Gridley 3

Joey Quen got the win on the mound and helped a balanced 76ers performance at the plate.

Quen pitched six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits and striking out four.

Vincent Meade pitched one inning in relief to seal the win.

At the plate, Garrett Christiansen and Aaron Head-Mason led the way with two hits each, while Quen, Meade, Wyatt Wilson, Kaydon Pogue and Jared Eagan had a hit each.

NH Giants 4, Red Bluff 1

Asher Meadows continued his impressive summer both on the mound and at the plate, leading the Giants to a three-run win over Red Bluff at the 76ers tournament.

Meadows pitched all seven innings for the win, allowing seven hits and four walks and striking out seven.

Meadows also had an impact on offense, leading a balanced team effort with a pair of hits.

Kyler Carr and Mason Hooven each added a double, while Vincent Agliolo, Kaden Ritter, Dean Wellik and Jake Reeser rounded out a nine-hit team performance.

B52s 7, Colt 45’s 2

Cody Banks finished 3-for-5 to lead the B52s to their third straight win and their sixth in six games against the Colt 45’s this summer.

With the win, the B52s improved to 14-8.

Brian Orr added a pair of hits in the win, while Matt Mascio was 2-for-3 with two walks and three RBIs.

On the mound, Cade Sheets continued to impress, pitching four innings for the win, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out seven.

Spencer Duggan, Jacob Smith, Tommy Gale and Eric Smelko rounded out an 11-hit team performance.

Next up, the B52s will host the Sonoma County Tigers at Bomber Field on Friday night at 7:05 p.m.

Crabs 12, Expos 4

The Humboldt Crabs completed the weekend sweep of the Expos with their seventh straight win at the Arcata Ball Park on Sunday.

The Crabs broke open a tight game with five runs in the bottom of the fifth and never looked back.

Dom Souto led the way at the plate, finishing 4-for-5, including a pair of doubles, while Dawson Bacho was 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs.

Vinny Bologna also had a home run, while Carter Booth, Kokko Figueiredo and Bryce Kirk each also had a double.

Evan Gibbons got the win on the mound, allowing just one run on one hit and two walks in six innings, while striking out four.

With the win, the Crabs improved to 13-10.

They will open a three-game series against the Solano Mudcats on Tuesday night.
