McKinleyville’s Jacob Smith finished 3-for-4 with a home run and a double on Saturday night, as the Humboldt B52s ran out to a comfortable 15-1 win over the Redding Colt 45’s at Bomber Field in Eureka.
Smith, a 2018 McKinleyville grad who plays college ball at Carleton College in Minnesota, led the offensive onslaught along with Cody Banks, who was 4-for-6 and also had a double as well as five RBIs.
With the win, the team’s fifth over the Colt 45’s this season, the B52s improved to 13-8.
Former Eureka Logger Luis Pimentel got the win on the mound and continues to be one of the team’s most reliable pitchers.
Pimentel pitched five innings for the win, allowing just one earned run on five hits and one walk, while also striking out six.
Jeff Giacomini pitched three scoreless innings in relief, allowing just one hit, before Justin Smith came in to close out the win.
The B52s actually trailed by a run after two and a half innings, but tied the game in the bottom of the third and quickly pulled away after that, putting up 11 runs over the following two innings.
Seven B52 players finished with multiple hits, including Eric Smelko, Brian Orr, Tommy Gale, Braeden Holliday and Matt Mascio, who each had two.
The two clubs will close out a three-game weekend stand on Sunday at 12:05 p.m.
