Hec and Chad Wood took first place at the recent Redwood Empire Golf and Country Club’s 64th annual Southern Humboldt Masters tournament, which featured a total of 57 teams and 144 golfers, the largest amateur tournament of the year in the county.
The winning duo scored a two-day total of 165 for 15-under par, one stroke better than the pairing of Jeff Myers and Mike Martin, who placed second with a 166.
The format consisted of a two-player scramble on Saturday, while on Sunday both players’ balls counted on the front nine and one of the two was used on the back nine
Third place was claimed by the father-and-son team of Tim Crowley Sr. and Tim Crowley Jr., who finished with a 174.
Mike Griggs and Mike McRae placed fourth (177), with three teams finishing in a tie for fifth (179), the father-and-son team of Don and Ryan Nolan, Riley Childress and Ramon Lopez, and John Klar and Justin Johnson.
In the net division, Cameron Moore and Tony Stubbs took first with a total of 147.3.
Rick and Dave Olson place second (152.3), with Jim Butler and Nate Renier in third (153.7).
Rounding out the top six were Jake Howmon and Nelsin Iriarte (154.7), Al Penasa and Mike Melendy (155), and Chuck Schager and Mike Finley (155.3).
