There appears to be no stopping the McKinleyville Little League All-stars.
On Tuesday night, McKinleyville captured a second District 26 title in less than a week, with the 11-year-olds adding to the title the 8-9-10s won last week.
Mack got the better of Eel River by a score of 6-4 to win the championship, overcoming an early deficit in an exciting game played at the Redwood Fields in Cutten.
The win was the second for McKinleyville over Eel River at the four-day tournament and their third in four days.
Trailing by a run after the opening inning, the Mack bats took a one-run lead on a two-RBI double in the top of the fourth.
The Eel River players immediately tied things up again in the bottom half of the inning, but it did little to slow down the Mack bats, with a James Fike double to right center field putting them up 6-2.
McKinleyville was able to hold on after that despite a late Eel River rally, with Patrick Wilson pitching into the sixth and getting the win on the mound.
Mike Manzi pitched in relief.
McKinleyville opened the tournament with back-to-back wins on Saturday and Sunday over Eel River and Redwood Empire, respectively, before Eel River got the better of Redwood Empire by a score of 6-5 on Monday to remain in contention and set up Tuesday’s game.
The Mack all-stars will now advance to play in Redding on July 12th.
