The Humboldt Eagles and Northern Humboldt Giants each lost their semifinal matchups at the Muckdogs 17U American Legion baseball tournament in Reno on Sunday.

The Eagles fell 5-4 to the host team, although the players turned in a far better performance than on Saturday.

Hayden Bode pitched five innings in the loss, allowing four earned runs and striking out five, before Brayden Youkey came in to close out the game.

At the plate, Keenan Morris continued his impressive showing at the tournament with two hits, including a triple, while Lane Thrap and Parker Rodgers each also had a base hit and an RBI.

The Eagles will play at Galena High in Reno on Monday.

The Giants, meanwhile, fell 10-2 in their semifinal against Best Speed Baseball.

Nick Parker and Mason Nichols each pitched three innings in the loss, while the Giants had five hits, one each from Nichols, Kaden Ritter, Mason Hooven, Dean Wellick and Jake Reeser.

B52s sweep

The Humboldt B52s completed a three-game weekend sweep in Redding, beating the Colt 45’s 9-4 on Saturday night.

Cody Banks hit his second home run of the season in the win, finishing 2-for-5 with three RBIs.

David Vagle got the win on the mound, his first of the summer, allowing two earned runs on five hits and two walks in five innings.

Vagle also struck out four, as the B52s took control of the game with five runs in the top of the second inning.

Jeff Giacomini, Karter Koch, Antonio Caravalho and Matt Mascio each had two hits, including a double by Caravalho.

The B52s are now 10-6 and will return home to play the Humboldt Crabs at the Arcata Ball Park on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

Humboldt Crabs

The Humboldt Crabs got the better of the Potters in Lincoln on Saturday night, 8-7, improving to 2-2 on their current road trip and 7-10 on the year.

Damian Henderson had three hits in the win, including a home run, while Kokko Figueiredo had two hits.

The Crabs and Potters will close out a three-game stand on Sunday night.

Northern Humboldt Knights

The Northern Humboldt Knights 16U team also competed in Reno over the weekend.

After losing to the Muckdogs on Thursday by a score of 6-3, the Knights defeated the Eureka Eagles 4-3 on Friday and followed that with an 11-9 win over the California Warriors later that day.

On Saturday the Knights got the better of the West Coast Kings, 7-6, before falling to the Muckdogs 7-1.

A 3-2 record in pool play was good enough to see the Knights advance to Sunday’s semifinals.
