The Del Norte All-Stars made quite a splash this week.
Competing in Oregon’s Little League District 8, three teams out of the county won their respective district tournaments, and all three did so with emphatic performances.
The Del Norte 8-9-10 girls were first to claim the championship, and they were followed later in the week by both the Major girls and Major boys.
Between them the three squads were a perfect 8-0 in their games, and even more impressively they outscored their opponents by a whooping 129-10.
The 8-9-10 girls won their tournament by taking a best-of-three series against Gold Valley, rolling to a 30-0 win in their opener and clinching the series with a 21-4 win.
The coaches credited four different pitchers for big contributions, as well as good team hitting.
The Major girls also had what their coaches described as a well-rounded team effort with contributions from throughout the entire lineup.
The Del Norte girls defeated Illinois Valley 15-0 in three innings in their opener, before getting the better of Gold Valley twice for the championship, by scores of 16-1 and 13-2, ending both in just four innings.
In total, they outscored their opponents 44-3 over the three games, with multiple inside-the-park home runs in each game.
The team’s pitchers and catchers paved the way for the title, setting the tone for the Del Norte girls.
The county’s Major boys were just as emphatic, also racking up three big wins.
The Del Norte boys defeated Grants Pass American 9-2 in their opener, before defeating Gold Valley in back-to-back games, 14-0 and 11-1.
Pitcher Preston Daniels was instrumental, throwing nine innings over the three games and finishing with a very impressive 19 strikeouts, including nine of them in a complete-game performance in the championship.
Team defense also played a big part in the team’s win, with the Del Norte boys getting base runners on all three stolen base attempts.
According to the coaches, every kid impacted every game.
All three Del Norte squads will now turn their attention towards next month’s Oregon state tournaments.
In addition, the Del Norte Junior and Senior boys have each received automatic berths for the West Regionals in Sacramento in late July.
