Fortuna senior Katie Hurst closed out a legendary career at the CIF state track and field championships on Saturday.

Making her fourth appearance at the prestigious meet, Hurst finished eighth in the girls high jump with a jump of five feet, five inches.

Coronado High’s Alysah Hickey took first with a jump of 5-08.

For Hurst, the competition marks the end of what has been a remarkable high school career.

The Fortuna senior holds Humboldt-Del Norte League records in the high jump and the triple jump and has dominated locally in both events for the past four years, as well as in the long jump.

Along with fellow senior Camrin Dolcini, who also qualified for the state meet in Clovis in the 100 meter hurdles, Hurst played a pivotal role in leading the Huskies to a first-ever girls league title a year ago.

The Fortuna girls defended their league crown this year and went on to take second place as a team at the NCS Redwood Empire meet earlier this month, a remarkable showing against some of the top programs north of San Francisco.

Hurst previously placed second in the state meet high jump as a sophomore, and third as a freshman.

Her league record in the event is 5-09, which she set at the NCS meet as a sophomore.

She has also qualified for the state meet in both the triple jump and the long jump.

Dolcini placed 23rd in her event on Friday.
