The Eureka Loggers competed the league sweep over the Huskies with a pair of wins at Fortuna on Saturday to go to 4-0 in the Big 5.

The Loggers, who have now won five straight games and are 8-3 on the season, won 10-3 and 11-0 in five innings.

“It was another great day for us,” Eureka head coach Jackie Christensen said. “We really hit the ball well and everyone did their jobs today. Pitchers threw strikes, defense made plays and hitters put the ball in play.”

The Loggers had 28 hits over the two games.

In game one, Eureka scored six runs in the top of the third inning and stretched the lead to eight in the fourth, before the home team broke into the scoring column late.

Hayden Bode pitched four innings for the win, allowing just one hit, while walking two and striking out two.

The Loggers, meanwhile, racked up an impressive 14 hits, carrying on from a breakout performance earlier in the week.

Brady Munson, Isaak Gutierrez and Jackson Giacone each had three hits in the win, including a double from Giacone, a freshman.

Gutierrez also drove in three runs and Munson two.

Keenan Morris also continued to impress with a pair of hits, including a double, and reached base four times.

Kalebh Hill, Zac Anderson and Tyce Mullins each also had a hit, with Hill and Anderson driving in a run each.

For Fortuna, Gabe Sandberg had a good game at the plate, finishing with a pair of base hits, while Regan Nyberg added a double.

Dylan McNeill, Sheadan Kadle and Branson Gans each also had a base hit.

In game two, the Loggers scored seven times in the top of the second and led 11-0 after three on the way to ending the game in five.

Hill impressed on the mound, holding the home team to just one hit in five innings, while striking out six.

Morris and David Vagle led a second 14-hit performance for the Loggers, with a pair of hits each.

Vagle had two doubles and drove in a pair of runs, while Morris had a double.

“In the two games combined we had 28 hits, scored 21 runs and only had 1 error,” Christensen said. “So our confidence is building as we continue to get games under our belt.”

Giacone capped a big day with another hit and an RBI, while Bode finished 2-for-2 with two RBIs.

Munson added a double.

Riley Harris had Fortuna’s lone hit.

With the losses, the Huskies are now 0-6 in the Big 5 and 3-11 overall.

Fortuna hosts McKinleyville on Wednesday.

The Loggers play two games at Del Norte on Friday.
