The future of girls basketball at McKinleyville and Fortuna high schools appears to be in good hands.
Both the McKinleyville JVs and Fortuna freshmen each won on Thursday night to close out their respective seasons with a perfect league campaign.
In JV action, the Panthers got the better of Fortuna by a score of 49-39 at McKinleyville High before a thrilling varsity showdown to decide third place in the Big 5.
With the win over their closest challengers, the Mack JVs improved to 8-0 in conference play and claimed the Big 5 title outright.
Fortuna has lost just twice all season — both times to McKinleyville — and closed out the Big 5 with a record of 6-2.
The Huskies enjoyed a stellar season and finished with an overall record of 20-2.
