Hoopa boys win at Etna tournament

The Hoopa Valley Warriors opened the Etna tournament with a comfortable 74-44 win over Trinity in boys basketball on Thursday.

George Navarro continued his impressive season with another big game, scoring a game-high 37 points.

The senior guard has been unstoppable all season, and added eight steals and five assists in Thursday’s win.

Teammate John Smith also had a big game for the Warriors, who have been battling some injuries over the past week.

Smith finished with 14 points and seven rebounds, while Dennis Young continued to step up in the absence of some of his teammates with another impressive all-around game, finishing with 13 points, 10 rebounds and four assists.

The Warriors, who improved to 11-4 with the win, will continue tournament play against either Happy Camp or Fall River on Friday. at 5 p.m.
