Fortuna’s historic North Coast Section win over Moreau Catholic was one of the big local sports stories this past week, giving the Huskies a big presence in this week’s Humboldt Sports athletes and team of the week honors.
A senior class for the ages helped lead the Huskies to their second straight Division-IV title, most of them closing out their high school careers with a remarkable 10 straight playoffs wins.
The Huskies are a team that got hot at the right time, and that earns them the Humboldt Sports Team of the Week honors for the second time in three weeks.
Leading the way all season for the Huskies have been quarterback Zac Claus and lineman Sheaden Kadle, the latter a four-year varsity player, and that earns both of them our athlete of the week honors.
On the girls side, a young Arcata team won the Durham tournament this past weekend, led by senior Sophia Belton, who was named tourney MVP and is also one of this week’s athletes of the week.
