CR Roundup — Maria Overton closes out strong at state

College of the Redwoods sophomore Maria Overton closed out her Corsairs cross country career on Saturday, with a strong showing at the state meet.

Overton, from Del Camp High School in Sacramento, ran a season best time in the 5K event in Fresno.

The sophomore finished in a time of 20 minutes, 41 seconds to place 82nd out of 164 runners.

“She had a race plan, we talked about it, and then she executed it well,” CR coach Reed Elmore said.

The race was moved up to 8:30 a.m. due to smoke from wildfires in the area.
