By Ray Hamill — St. Bernard’s and Fortuna will now play their North Coast Section quarterfinals on Saturday, after a full list of rescheduled games was released on Monday.
Both teams’ game were originally slated for this past Saturday but had to be postponed a couple of days due to the poor air quality throughout much of the section because of the ongoing wild fires.
On Sunday, it was announced the games would be pushed back a second time, although no new dates were immediately released.
A total of 19 games were affected, with 17 of those now postponed until next Saturday, including St. Bernard’s at San Marin and Fortuna at Kennedy.
Two of the 19 games, Cloverdale at Kelseyville and Middletown at Fort Bragg, are still scheduled to go ahead on Monday.
With the majority of the second-round games still to take place next weekend, the news also impacts the teams that did manage to get in their games in and win this past weekend, including three local schools, Eureka, Del Norte and South Fork.
Eureka is awaiting the winner of the Las Lomas/Terra Linda, Del Norte is awaiting the winner of the Fortuna/Kennedy game, and South Fork will play the winner of Branson/Tomales.
These three games were supposed to take place this coming weekend, but will now also have to be rescheduled.
No new dates have officially been released yet for these games, although presumably they will all be put back a week, giving all three of those local teams a bye next weekend, which would be their second each in three weeks.
