By Ray Hamill — College of the Redwoods volleyball is gearing up for the stretch run of the season, while looking to close out the campaign with some momentum.
The Corsairs will host conference powerhouse Feather River on Friday night, before one more home game next Wednesday against Lassen, and their final game at Butte in a week’s time.
And for the CR women, it’s now about finishing as high as possible in the Golden Valley Conference, and heading into the offseason with some momentum.
“We want to close out strong and go into the offseason on a high,” CR head coach Petra Lorenzi said.
Feather River will present a tough challenge for the Corsairs and come into the game at 18-7 on the year and a perfect 7-0 in conference.
The final game at Butte (18-10) will also be a tough one for a young CR squad, but Lorenzi sees both games as a learning opportunity for her players.
“This gives them the opportunity to play against some of the best CC volleyball in the state,” she said.
The matchup with Lassen will be played on sophomore night for the Corsairs, and is certainly a game Lorenzi feels her young team can win.
The Corsairs (4-14 and 1-6) pushed Lassen (3-14, 2-5) to five sets in Susanville, and a win this time around could see them move ahead of Shasta in the final conference standings.
“That’s a game that could go either way,” Lorenzi said.
Friday’s game against Feather River is set for 6 p.m.
