Citro holds on to claim league crown in girls golf

McKinleyville’s Molly Citro posted a two-stroke victory over teammate Phoebe Sundberg at Beau Pre on Tuesday in the final round of the Humboldt-Del Norte League in girls golf.

The two Panthers have been battling each other all season long, with Sundberg closing what had been a six-stroke gap to just one last week, setting up a dramatic final round.

But it was Citro who came through in style at the hurdle, winning for the fourth time in seven rounds this season and clinching a three-stroke season championship (488-491).

Arcata’s Avary Henry was third on the day, shooting an 86, and placing third overall on the season (523), nine strokes better than McKinleyville’s Isabella Sundberg, who shot an 88 on the final round.

Eureka’s Hannah Arnold had the fifth best score of the day with a 98.
