By Ray Hamill – Arcata’s Cass Bell arrived in San Jose on Wednesday evening ahead of his big fight at Bellator 206 on Saturday.
Bell, who trains out of the Institute of Combat in Arcata, will fight Ty Costa on the undercard of the the big showdown between Rory MacDonald and Gegard Mousasi at the SAP Center in San Jose.
Bell, a former Arcata High standout wrestler, comes into the fight with a record of 1-0 as a pro, after defeating Khai Wu at Bellator 199 in May.
But the experienced Costa presents a different challenge, and has been fighting professionally for six years with a 4-3 record.
According to Bell’s trainer John “Juan” Thompson, however, preparations for the fight have gone just about as well as they could have hoped for.
“It’s looking good,” Thompson said. “Everything’s been solid. We had a good camp. He’s in shape and he’s ready to go.”
The weigh-in for the big showdown will be held on Friday, and Bell’s been busy cutting weight down to 135 pounds.
“Everything’s going great, I’m just a little hungry, that’s all,” he said. “I can’t wait to have some tacos on the way back.”
Bell will be busy over the next couple of days taking care of media commitments for the big event.
After arriving in San Jose on Wednesday, he spent the evening meeting the other fighters on the card.
The preliminary fights are available for streaming through MMA Junkie, with the action getting under way at 4 p.m. Pacific time.
