Tigers top Crusaders to remain perfect in girls tennis


The Tigers maintained their perfect start to the girls tennis season, defeating St. Bernard’s 6-0 at Arcata High on Tuesday.

At No. 1 singles, freshman Aimee Reiner defeated St. Bernard’s senior Tenaya Ferrell 6-0, 6-0, while at No. 2 singles, sophomore Kendra Flint defeated sophomore Tracy Huang, 6-0, 6-0.438A0775

The Tigers, who improved to 7-0 on the season, lost just two games in the four singles matchups combined.

At No. 3 singles, junior Sydni Sobota got the better of junior Jenny Yu, 6-0, 6-1, while at No. 4 singles, junior Casey Mcatasney beat sophomore Sofie Phuong, 6-1, 6-0.

The Tigers also took both doubles matches.

At No. 1, Flint teamed with Simone Haggerty to defeat Ferrell and Huang, 8-3, while at No. 2, Ireland Sommer and Makayla Bernald defeated Chlore Jung and Caroline Thu, 8-1.

It was the Tigers’ second win over the Crusaders (0-7) this season.
