Photo by Ray Hamill – Luke Fairfield and the St. Bernard’s Crusaders are off to a 4-0 start this season.
Two local teams rose one spot each in this week’s Prep2Prep North Coast Section top-25 football rankings, while another remains where it was a week ago.
Both Eureka and St. Bernard’s have dominated their early-season opponents on the way to a 4-0 record.
And both schools’ impressive runs haven’t gone unnoticed.
The Loggers are the highest ranked of all the local teams, this week moving up to No. 13 after a comprehensive 62-14 win Foothill.
Foothill is listed among the teams just outside the top-25, as is Ukiah, another of the teams the Loggers dominated.
The Fortuna Huskies (3-1), meanwhile, whose only loss came in the opening week to No. 8 ranked Cardinal Newman, are No. 19, same as last week.
The Huskies defeated neighbors and close rivals Ferndale 47-13 in the annual Milk Can game over the weekend.
St. Bernard’s, which racked up 633 yards of offense on the way to defeating Hoopa Valley 67-13 on Saturday, moved up one spot to No. 24, having held steady at No. 25 since the start of the season.
Del Norte, despite an impressive 4-0 start, is unranked.
