Arcata girls off to a winning start in tennis

The Arcata girls tennis team got the season off to a winning start over the weekend, defeating St. Bernard’s 7-0.

They followed that with a 5-2 victory over McKinleyville on Tuesday to go to 2-0.

Sophomore Kendra Flint secured a straight-sets victory over St. Bernard’s Tracy Huang at No. 1 singles (6-1, 6-1), while teammates Aimee Reiner, Sydni Sobota and Casey Mcatasney each won without losing a game at Nos. 2-4 singles.

Simone Haggerty also defeated Chlorie Jung at No. 5 singles, while Sobota and Mcatasney, and Haggerty and Ireland Sommer combined to win in doubles.

On Tuesday, Reiner, Sobota and Mcatasney each won in singles play, while Haggerty and Sobota teamed up to win in doubles.

The Tigers play next at Eureka on Saturday at 10 a.m.
