The Fortuna Huskies continued their impressive start to the season with a 5-0 win over Arcata in the McKinleyville Invitational Soccer Tournament championship game on Saturday.
The win was the third at the two-day tournament for the Fortuna boys, and their fourth in just five days.
More impressively, the Huskies have scored four or more goals in all four games, led by the dynamic Atilano brothers, Luis and Fernando.
Both brothers have already netted a hat trick for the Huskies (4-0), and both were on target again on Saturday, with Fernando scoring two and Luis one.
Junior Cruz also has been impressing in front of goal, netting twice in the championship game.
But while it’s been a winning start to the season for the Huskies, who feature several new faces this year, head coach Daniel Holmes says there’s still plenty of room for improvement.
“I think we bought into what we needed to do today,” he said after Saturday’s win. “But we’ve definitely got work to do.”
The Huskies host Eureka in their league opener on Wednesday, with the girls’ teams kicking off the doubleheader at 5 p.m. and the boys at 7 p.m.
