It was a busy day on the courts for the four local college basketball teams with mixed results.
The College of the Redwoods men’s and women’s teams hosted Butte in Golden Valley Conference afternoon games and split, with the women’s team’s falling 73-56 and the men’s team cruising to an 84-64 win.
Both Cal Poly Humboldt teams were on the road, playing at Cal State East Bay later in the day.
The Humboldt women won 93-68 and the men lost 95-53.
The Cal State East Bay men, who are ranked No. 10 in the nation, improved to 13-0 as they ended the Jacks’ four-game winning streak.
The Humboldt men dropped to 5-3 in conference and 7-7 overall.
The win for the CPH women was their seventh straight as they improved to 8-0 in the CCAA and they remain in a three-way tie for the conference lead with Chico State and Cal Poly Pomona.
The CPH women will play a pair of games against Chico State next week, hosting the Wildcats on Thursday night in a game that will see former St. Bernard’s standout Laila Florvilus make her return to the North Coast, before traveling to Chico for a Saturday night showdown.
The red-hot Humboldt women are now 10-4 overall.
The CR men started their game against Butte fast and never looked back, opening up a 25-point lead late in the opening half and carrying a 51-28 advantage into the break.
Kaden Erlenbush and Alfonso Medina each scored 16 points in the win, as Redwoods improved to 2-0 in the GVC and moved into a two-way tie with Feather River atop the standings.
CR is 13-7 overall, while a struggling Butte team lost its sixth straight game and dropped to 0-2 in conference and 8-12 overall.
Both Redwoods teams will host Siskiyous next Saturday.
