By Ray Hamill — One of the most successful players in H-DNL soccer history has found a new home for her talents.
Eureka senior Paige Rodgers announced recently that she will continue her playing career at Butte College after graduation this year.
Rodgers, along with Eureka teammates and fellow seniors Angelina Conant and Lorena Hernandez, enjoyed unparalleled success during their time playing together with the Loggers and they walk away as the first-ever four-time North Coast Section winners in H-DNL history in any one sport.
Together, they also won the last three Big 5 championships.
For Rodgers, the decision to take her talents to the next level was an easy one, as was the decision to join the Roadrunners.
The Eureka senior, who helped anchor a stingy Eureka defense during her high school career, opted to go to Butte for multiple reasons.
The Roadrunners reached out to Rodgers through Field Level, an athletic network that allows athletes, coaches and teams to connect with each other, and she was quickly sold on the program after visiting the campus last month.
“It was really nice. I really liked it,” Rodgers said. “They have a new science building, which is nice because I want to (major in) chemistry, and the weight room is really nice, and the field is grass.”
After playing such an important role in defense doing her playing career at Eureka High, Rodgers could continue that with her new team, although she says she will play any position they want.
“They recruited me as a defender, but it will kind of (depend) on wherever I fit on the team,” she said.
As for what she will remember from her days playing for the Loggers, Rodgers says the championships and her teammates stand out.

“Definitely winning NCS and league multiple times,” she said. “And also bonding with the team and getting close with them.”
Rodgers also believes that playing with such a competitive program helped prepare her for the college game.
“At practice everyone was really engaged, and the environment was really competitive,” she said.
The senior standout follows in the footsteps of her older brother, Parker, who also spent some time at Butte after graduation.
Paige, who says Parker has been one of her biggest influences, added that she might continue her playing career at a four-year school after her time at Butte.
She says she intends on going to San Francisco State after her time at Butte.
She joins a Butte team that is coached by Claire Abele and was 8-11-1 overall last season and 5-4-1 in conference.
