By Ray Hamill — A clear favorite for the Big 4 football championship has emerged as the teams get set to kick off conference play on Saturday night.

A Humboldt Sports readers poll this week posed the question who will win this year’s championship and close to 300 people responded.

And when the votes were counted, a clear favorite stood out.

The St. Bernard’s Crusaders received 37 percent of the vote cast, with the Del Norte Warriors second after receiving 28 percent of the votes.

The Fortuna Huskies were third in our poll after receiving 23 percent of the votes, with the Eureka Loggers rounding out the four teams and receiving 12 percent of the votes.

Are people sleeping on the Loggers, or the Huskies?

Time will tell, but for now the Crusaders are the team to beat in conference, according to Humboldt Sports readers.

Three weeks of conference play begins on Saturday night, with the Huskies traveling to Del Norte and the Loggers hosting the Crusaders in their homecoming game at the Redwood Bowl.

Kick off for both games is set for 7:30 p.m.

A big thank you to everyone who took the time to vote this week.

  1. Varsity Loggers smashed the Crusaders last Saturday night. Our JV didn’t come to play though.
