The St. Bernard’s girls boosted their playoff hopes with arguably their most impressive win of the season on Tuesday.
Playing on the road against Campolindo, a Division-3 team, the Crusaders won 59-28.
And they did it with some outstanding defense once again.
With the win, the SB girls stretched their winning streak to six straight and in the last five games their defense is allowing an average of just 29 points a game.
“It was another amazing defensive effort from the girls,” head coach Matt Tomlin said. “This was a big-time win versus a strong Division-3 team. This game will help us a lot with playoff seeding at the end of the year.”
The Crusaders, who are 2-0 in conference and 15-2 on the season, are the No. 1 team in North Coast Section Division 5, according to MaxPreps, and a victory over the No. 8 team in D-3 will boost their ranking.
With the loss, Campolindo dropped to 11-8.
Senior Madelyn Shanahan and junior Laila Florvilus, who are the reigning Little 4 MVPs, continued to lead the way in Tuesday’s win “with excellent efforts on both ends of the court,” according to Tomlin.
Florvilus scored a game-high 21 points, while Shanahan added 14 points.
Senior Hannah Finck also had a good game in the win and finished with eight points, while Makinsey Lemley chipped in four points.

Madelyn Shanahan
Finck has raised the level of her play in recent games and has become a key player on this year’s team.
“Hannah Finck had a monster of a game for us, hitting big shots and providing great leadership to her teammates,” Tomlin said.
A total of 10 different Crusaders scored in the win, while junior Aliyah Vigil continued to set the tone defensively with another big performance on that side of the ball.
Next up, the SB girls return to conference play and will travel to Ferndale on Friday night with the Little 4 lead on the line.
