Guess who’s among the top-ranked NFL linemen after week one

The Humboldt Crabs posted this picture of Alex Cappa and his wife Emily posing with the Vince Lombardi trophy after last season’s Super Bowl. Cappa worked for the Crabs during his playing days at HSU.

Alex Cappa returned to action with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week and made quite an early impression.

The fourth-year NFL guard starred in the Bucs season-opening 31-29 victory over the Dallas Cowboys and was one of the top-ranked offensive linemen in the league in week one.

According to Pro Football Focus, the former Humboldt State player was the fourth best lineman out of the 16 NFL games played, and the second best guard.

PFF has Browns guard Joel Bitonio the highest ranked lineman with a 93.5 grade, followed by 49ers tackle Trent Williams (92.2), Browns tackle Jack Conklin (87.2), Cappa (87.1) and Lions center Frank Ragnow (83.7).

Cappa’s performance was even more noteworthy considering it was his first since suffering a fractured ankle in a playoff win in January.

That injury sidelined the former Jacks star for the Bucs Super Bowl win, although the team is among the favorites once again this year and a return to the championship game appears very possible.

The Bucs play the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.
