Giants beat the Eagles to remain in contention at Fairfield tourney

The Northern Humboldt Giants cruised to a comfortable 14-2 win over their local rivals, the Humboldt Eagles, at the 17U end-of-season tournament in Fairfield on Saturday.

One day after falling to Yuba in tourney play, the Giants answered emphatically, while also eliminating the Eagles, who had won two straight elimination games coming into the showdown.

Alex Gorge pitched a complete game for the win, allowing eight hits and striking out four.

Nine different Giants players accounted for 16 team hits.

The consistent William Bommelyn and Jared Dixon each had three hits, including a double by Dixon.

Vincent Agliolo, Will Mager and Wilson Medina each added two hits, including doubles by Mager and Medina.

Jason DeShaun added a solo home run, while Ethan Thomas, Austin Brown and Ty Ghisetti each had a hit.

The loss ends the season for the Eagles.

Robert Williams, Archie Claybon and Michael Jewell each had two hits in the loss, including a double by Williams.

Mateo Gutierrez and Seth Grammer each also had a hit.

The Giants continue tournament play at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
