By Ray Hamill — From South Park to the Disney Channel to the Arcata Ball Park, Tyler Ganus is fitting right in with the Humboldt Crabs.

When he’s with the team, the SoCal native has been on fire at the plate this season, while also keeping a busy schedule going off the field.

In addition to his obvious baseball talents, Ganus is a successful actor, musician and music producer, having appeared in the very successful and long-running Comedy Central series, South Park, as well as a number of Disney Channel movies and series.

“I’ve always said, ‘I’m a baseball player by day, a musician by night and an actor in between,’” he said. “All three are big passions of mine.”

Ganus also has brought a lot of enthusiasm to the Arcata Ball Park and the Crabs lineup.

“He’s a high energy player,” Crabs manager Robin Guiver said. “He definitely leads us in keeping the dugout going. He fires up the dugout.”

Ganus is batting a very impressive .389 this summer, second best on the team behind only Gabe Giosso, while hitting successfully in nine straight games coming into Wednesday.

“I feel he gives us as good an at-bat as anybody on the team,” Guiver said of the University of Oregon freshman. “And he’s a student of the game. I watch him out there at batting practice and he’s out there taking reads off the ball.”

Ganus has also quickly developed into a fan favorite among the Crabs faithful, and the admiration is mutual.

“I’ve played baseball since I was really young and I was always taught it’s a game you’re supposed to have fun with,” he said. “I like to play with a lot of energy and I think that’s the way it’s supposed to be played, and I think this town gets that.

“I’ve never had more fun on the baseball field. It’s just a great group of guys, great coaches and a great town.”

Ganus has long been succeeding outside of baseball, first breaking into television at the age of two when he provided the voice for Baby Ike on South Park, following in the footsteps of his older sister, who had previously provided the character’s voice for the famed Comedy Central show.

“I come from a family of professional actors,” he said. “I was a kid that liked to do a lot of things and I’m fortunate to have a family and team that supports me.”

In addition to South Park, Ganus has also acted in Disney’s Wreck-it Ralph and Monsters University, as well as appearing for three years on the hit television series, Walk the Prank, where he played the role of Held Back Henry, the school bully.

He is also a trained classical pianist and a music major.

He has recorded 19 songs commercially, all of which are available on Spotify and Apple Music, after producing his first piece of music while still in middle school.

And all of that success has helped pave the way for his success on the baseball field.

Ganus hit a home run in his first at-bat for the Crabs this summer.

“What I think all of them have taught me is to do what you love to do, No. 1,” he said. “And if you really want to do multiple things, you have to manage your time.”

Ganus, who has 20 base hits in his last nine games going into Wednesday night, says playing for the Crabs has been everything he could have hoped for.

“It’s been fantastic. I couldn’t have asked for a better assignment for the summer,” he said. “It’s fantastic. The coaching staff is absolutely incredible, the guys work extremely hard, and there’s a standard of winning, and I love that. I’m a real competitive guy and it’s nice to be in an environment like that.”

After missing the opening week due to sickness, Ganus quickly announced his presence on the team with a home run on the very first pitch he saw.

Ganus and the Crabs will be back in action this Friday night when they host the West Coast Kings in the first game of a three-game series at the Arcata Ball Park.
