The South Fork Cubs celebrated their seniors in the best way possible on Tuesday night.

Playing their final Little 4 boys basketball game of the season, the Cubs comfortably took care of business against St. Bernard’s with a 77-61 victory.

The win, which was secured with some pinpoint free-throw shooting in the fourth quarter, completes the season sweep over Little 4 opponents and leaves the Cubs as unofficial league champions in this COVID restricted season.

“It was a great win for us,” head coach Chris Contreras said. “We will definitely take the unofficial Little 4 title.”

The team’s three seniors all played a key role in the win.

Alex Harding, who has frustrated opponents in multiple sports this year, finished with nine points and played inspiring defense, something the coaches have prioritized in this shortened campaign.

And it paid off against the taller Crusaders.

Fellow senior Crue Contreras also had a big night, finishing with 16 points and eight rebounds, while the clutch Graham McConnell scored 21 points and nailed 11 of 14 free throws in the final period.

Not to be outdone, junior guard Tanner Curran continued his outstanding season with a team-high 22 points.

“Tonight really felt like a Little 4 league game,” Chris Contreras said. “It was very intense.”

With the win, the Cubs are now 3-0 against Little 4 teams and 3-3 overall, while the Crusaders, who have lost three straight, dropped to 1-1 in the Little 4 and 3-4 overall.

Next up, the Cursaders host Hoopa on Thursday night, while South Fork hosts McKinleyville on Saturday.
