Tanner Curran capped a big week at the plate for South Fork on Saturday, finishing 3-for-5 with a grand slam and five RBIs in game one of a baseball doubleheader with Hoopa.

The Cubs won 18-0 and 2-1.

Crue Contreras and Justin Freitas each also had a big game for the Cubs in the opener, with both of them finishing 2-for-4 with two RBIS and two runs.

“We hit the ball a lot better today,” South Fork head coach Chris Contreras said. “Our fielding has finally started to tighten up.”

Graham McConnell pitched three scoreless inning in the win, striking out five, as the Cubs scored 12 runs in the second inning to pull away.

For Hoopa, Kagan Renteria had two hits and Cade Whitecrane and Ryan Ames one each.

South Fork 2, Hoopa 1

Game two was far closer thanks to the pitching of Hoopa senior Daniel Minton.

The Warriors standout pitched all seven innings and struck out 12, allowing just one hit.

South Fork’s John Harding led off the first inning with a double, before scoring moments later on a McConnell sac fly.

One of the big stories of the day was the pitching of South Fork sophomore Johnah Wansick, who threw 6.1 innings on his way to the win and only allowed one earned run.

Wansick struck out eight.

For Hoopa, Minton and Brian Gulley each had two hits, while Ames and Bear Little each had one.

With the sweep, the Cubs improved to 3-9, while the Warriors dropped to 1-12.
