The College of the Redwoods men placed three runners in the top seven at the Golden Valley Conference cross country championships on Wednesday, finishing second overall as a team.

The race was won by Butte College’s Bailey Rockholt, who posted a time of 17 minutes, 58 seconds, with CR’s Kyle Byrne in second, just four seconds back.

Byrne’s teammate Sean Dugdale placed third (18:13) to give the Corsairs two runners on the podium.

“The guys ran really well,” head coach Reed Elmore said. “And so did the girls. We came closer to the lead than we ever have this whole season.”

Braden Vega placed seventh for CR in a time of 19:55, while Nygel Todd was ninth (20:23).

Butte won the team event with 33 points, barely edging out CR (36), with Shasta a distant third (55).
