Consistent Blevins edges teammate for season title in H-DNL golf

Submitted photo – Eureka’s Hunter Blevins, left, and Talon Vigil were the top two golfers in the H-DNL this season.

Freshman Talon Vigil won for the third time in five rounds in H-DNL boys golf action at Del Norte on Monday, but it was senior teammate Hunter Blevins who edged him for the season championship.

Blevins shot a final round of 88, four strokes off the pace set by Vigil and Arcata’s Riley Mosher, but that was just enough to take top spot for the season by one stroke.

The performance capped an outstanding and consistent season for Blevins and his teammates, who won all five team events and comfortably out-distanced the rest of the field.

A loaded Loggers team had four of the seven all-league places, while the future looks very bright for at least a couple of outstanding freshmen.

Vigil’s victory on the day was the second he tied for in his three wins this season, as he and Mosher shot identical rounds of 84.

Another freshman, St. Bernard’s Jack Kramer, provided the highlight of the round with a hole in one, helping him to an 85, just one stroke off the pace.

The St. Bernard’s standout, who tied Vigil for victory in the opening round of league play, placed fourth in the season standings.

Eureka’s Julian Goodman tied Blevins for fourth-best round of the day with an 88.

Arcata finished second in the season standings, led by Mosher and Kyle Plumley, who were each named all-league.
