By Ray Hamill — Eureka’s Bobbie Purify is headed to the NAIA women’s basketball tournament with William Jessup University, and she played a big part in helping the Warriors get there for just the second time in program history.

The senior guard played two of her best games of the season on the final weekend of action earlier this month, as the Warriors swept a doubleheader from San Diego Christian to close out the regular season 10-8.

They then had to wait a week to see how conference rivals, The Master’s University, fared in its final games, before clinching an automatic tournament berth as Golden State Athletic Conference East Division champions.

The tournament will tip off on March 12.

Purify transferred to William Jessup last year after Notre Dame de Namur dropped all of its sports teams, and has had an immediate impact with her new team.

The 2016 Eureka High graduate averaged 5.4 points and shot an impressive 62 percent from the floor.

And she saved the best for last, with her most impressive offensive games of the season on the final weekend.

Purify scored a season-best 12 points and four steals in game one against San Diego Christian, and followed that with 11 more points the following day.

Over the two games she made nine of her 13 field goal attempts.

Purify also enjoyed two standout years playing for College of the Redwoods.

No word yet on who the Warriors will face in the opening round of the tournament.
