The NCAA announced on Wednesday that all fall Division-II and Division-III championships have been canceled because of the coronavirus.

The decision affects several local student athletes who compete for various institutions at both levels.

Both decisions were made separately with the NCAA Board of Governors allowing each division to make their own independent decision.

The decisions were announced within hours of each other.

Humboldt State and the rest of the California Collegiate Athletically Association, a D-II conference, had already made the decision to postpone all fall sports back in May.

The NCAA is still planning on playing Division-I football this fall, although many conferences are scheduling conference only games and the Ivy League has canceled all fall sports.

Also on Wednesday, UConn became the first FBS program to opt out of the 2020 season because of the coronavirus.
