The Humboldt Eagles 17Us won for the third straight day at the Northern California Country Classic in Yreka on Saturday to leave themselves just one victory from a tournament championship.

Caden Vance came within a home run of hitting for the cycle, as the red-hot Eagles, who have now won seven of their last eight games, defeated Tehama 15-4.

On Friday, the Eagles rallied for the second straight day in tournament play to pull out an 8-6 win over Fairfield.

“One thing I can say about this team is there’s no give up in them,” head coach Jeff Mielke said.

Trailing 5-1 against Fairfield, the Eagles scored five times in the third to take a one-run lead and were able to hold on after that.

Rogan Bode continued his impressive summer at the plate, finishing 4-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and two runs.

Brayden Youkey and Regan Nyberg each also had an impact, finishing 1-for-4 with an RBI, including a double by Youkey.

Vance got his impressive weekend off to a big start in Friday’s win, finishing 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

“He was hitting lasers all over the field,” Mielke said of Vance, who has just recently returned from injury.

Vance continued his impressive showing on Saturday, finishing 3-for-3 with a triple, a double and two RBIs, as well as scoring three times.

He also was hit by a pitch earlier in the game.

Austin McConnell also continued to impress, finishing 4-for-4 with an RBI and a run after being moved into the two hole in the lineup.

“It was a big day for him,” Mielke said. “He performed well at the top of the lineup.”

Ethan Pesch also had a big day, finishing 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Bode was 1-for-4 with an RBI.

Gavin Brooks, Xander Sorenson and Braden Luna each also had a base hit, with the latter driving in two runs.

Daniel Minton got the win on the mound on Saturday, giving up just one run in four innings, with Connor Johnson impressing in relief.

On Friday, Brooks got the win in relief of starter Aidan Dorsch, with Pesch closing out.

The Eagles, who are now 9-4, will close out tournament play against the Diablo Longhorns on Sunday morning  at 9:30 a.m.
