Humboldt State men move up to third in CCAA

The Humboldt State men’s basketball team remained perfect at home this season with a key conference win over Cal State Los Angeles at Lumberjack Arena on Thursday night.

The Jacks improved to 8-0 in Arcata with the 84-76 victory, outscoring the visitors in each half on the way to moving ahead of them in the California Collegiate Athletic Association standings.

Justin Everett and Jackson Strong each scored 21 points in the win, while teammate LJ Williams finished with a team-high 10 rebounds.

With the win, the Jacks move into third-place in the CCAA standings, tied with Cal State San Bernardino at 6-3, and trailing only UC San Diego (8-1) and Cal State East Bay (7-2).

Cal State LA dropped to 5-4 and 9-6.

The HSU men, who are now 12-5 on the season, will host Cal State Dominguez Hills (5-3 in the CCAA) on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

HSU women 66, Cal State LA 41

Isamar Conde led the HSU women with 21 points as they ended a three-game losing skid with a win over visiting Cal State LA on Thursday night.

With the win, the Jacks improve to 5-4 in the CCAA and 7-5 overall.

Tyra Turner also had a big game for the home team, which was playing for the first time in 10 days, finishing with 13 points, while Alexia Thrower posted a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Thrower was also 9-of-10 at the free-throw line.

The Jacks, who are now sixth in conference standings, will host Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday night at 5:30 p.m
