NCS Football — Ferndale bows out at Berean Christian

The Ferndale Wildcats bowed out of the North Coast Section Division-V playoffs with a 58-26 loss at Berean Christian on Saturday afternoon.

The Wildcats started the stronger of the two teams and led 14-7 early on touchdowns from Landon Gomes and Gio Magdaleno, but the home team got things going after that behind a strong running game, led by junior Justice Jackson.

“They just made some really big plays and we weren’t able to finish drives,” Ferndale head coach Clint McClurg said.

Sophomore quarterback Jenner Christiansen had two TD throws in the loss, one to Magdelano and one in the second half to Kyler Becksted.

Hunter Barnes closed out the scoring for the Cats on a TD run.

“I thought, to put it simply, there was the good, the bad and the ugly,” McClurg said of his team’s performamce.

With the loss, the Cats close out the season at 4-7.

They had their ups and downs this season, competing for the Little 4 crown and qualifying for the NCS playoffs.

“In terms of wins and losses, we’re not pleased at all,” McClurg said. “But in terms of the growth of these young men, we very pleased.”

The Cats certainly progressed as the season went on.

“We just ran out of season,” McClurg said. “We were still getting better.”
