Loggers to honor new Hall of Famers

Six new inductees will be added to the Eureka High Athletic Hall of Fame this week, as the Loggers celebrate homecoming.

The festivities get under way on Thursday night at the school cafeteria with the induction ceremony at 7 p.m.

This year’s class includes Keith Weidkamp, a sprinter from the class of 1958 who set school records that stood for decades both at the high school and at Humboldt State.

Mark Lucich, a three-sport star from the class of 1970, who played football, basketball and baseball.

Lucich went on to set the home run record at Stanford and was the Cardinal baseball team’s MVP as a senior.

David Bills, an all-league linebacker and three-time all-league catcher from the class of 1976.

Bills is also a former Crabs standout, and went on to coach high school sports for 39 years.

Wendi Figas Locatelli, a multi-sport athlete from the class of 2000 who competed in soccer, softball, basketball and volleyball.

Mo Charlo, a 2001 grad who excelled in football, basketball and baseball, and went on to star for the University of Nevada as well as playing professional basketball. 

Coach Ron Hartman, who spent 35 years with Eureka City Schools coaching gymnastics, football, golf, track and field, and basketball.

Tonight’s ceremony is open to the public.
